San Mateo Deputy Mayor Diane Papan Announces Key

Endorsements in Race for California

State Assembly

SAN MATEO, CA – San Mateo Deputy Mayor Diane Papan announced additional state, regional and local leaders supporting her candidacy for the newly formed 21st Assembly District, an open seat being vacated by Assemblymember Kevin Mullin. The new District includes the communities of Burlingame, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Millbrae, Redwood City, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo, and South San Francisco.


“I’m proud to support San Mateo City Councilmember Diane Papan as the next AD21 Assemblymember,” said California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis. “She’ll fight for the prosperity and well-being of all Californians.”


Said State Board of Equalization Member Malia Cohen, “In these challenging times, we need leaders like Diane to ensure every family who needs it has access to affordable healthcare and high-quality education at safe school sites.”


Beside Kounalakis and Cohen, Papan is endorsed by former State Senator Jerry Hill, a majority of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors (Supervisors Groom, Horsley and Slocum), and a rafter of local elected officials from every corner of the district, including Belmont Mayor Julia Mates, Burlingame Mayor Ricardo Ortiz, Millbrae Mayor Anne Oliva,

ABOUT DIANE: Diane Papan grew up in San Mateo County and is a long-time civic leader, currently serving as San Mateo Deputy Mayor. A graduate of UCLA, Papan received her law degree from Hastings Law School. She is also a Director of John’s Closet, a Peninsula nonprofit that has provided new clothes, scholarships, and essential items to over 15,000 school age children and young adults. Diane and her husband Dan are proud parents of daughter Alexa.
